Project K.I.D.S. Staff Profiles
MA(Edin), DPhil(Oxon) Professor & Senior Lecturer at UWA Mike is interested in how children think. He wants to know more about the way that they solve problems and develop their thinking abilities. Information collected from Project K.I.D.S. has allowed Mike to investigate the relationship between how quickly children can solve problems and how their spatial, verbal and organising skills are developing. One focus within the Project K.I.D.S. program has been to explore how this learning and development takes place for kids who are born earlier than expected (prematurely) and who may have some catching up to do. More recently, Mike has also been involved in collaborative research exploring the development of kids abilities to get on with one another, specifically, to understand how they develop empathy and moral reasoning.
BA (Hons), MPsych (clinical), Phd Clinical Psychologist & Senior Lecturer at Murdoch University Corinne is interested in finding out more about what makes happy kids and happy families. In addition to her work at Project K.I.D.S., she has worked with children and families in many different counselling contexts. She tries to find creative ways to help children when they are having troubles at school or at home. She also helps families to find ways to work well together when things get a bit ‘stuck’. At Project K.I.D.S., Corinne’s job has been to develop a range of exciting activities for the children to participate in when they come along. She also trains the researchers at Project K.I.D.S. in different ways of finding out what kids are interested in so that they can provide a fun day for kids when they visit us. Bsc, Phd, MClinNeuro Senior Lecturer at UWA
Allison is interested in how children’s brains develop. She wants to learn how children’s abilities are related to the development of different areas of the brain. This can help us to understand better what happens when a child's brain is not developing well. New brain wave technology at PROJECT K.I.D.S. will help to explore this.
