Student Projects - 2007

2007 saw another group of students who participated in Project K.I.D.S. as part of their research projects. This included 2 groups of 4th year Bachelor of Psychology students, 3 Psychology Honours students, as well as PhD and Masters Psychology students from both UWA and Murdoch University.

Below is a brief summary of the research projects that were apart of Project K.I.D.S. in 2007

Katie Leach:

My honours project will look at individual differences in children's ability to sense and respond to the emotions of others. In particular, I will examine the development of empathy in school aged children and how this ability is related to emotion perception. That is, how well children can discriminate between faces bearing different emotional expressions, as well as genuine and fake expressions.

Yan Xia Lim:

I am interested in the development of auditory processes in children. Using the new 'brain wave technology', I hope to gather more information about exactly how children process what they hear and how this knowledge can be used to help better understand auditory processing in children who have specific language impairment (SLI)

Stacey Soh:

The aim of my research is to investigate if the circumstances that affect goal inhibition of attention in children. Specifically, I am interested in whether goal maintenance and/or developing inhibitory capacities facilitate the inhibition of attention in young children.

Amber, Lauren & Timothy:

The main aim of our study is to investigate children's ability to stay on task and whether it is related to their intelligence, speed of processing and memory.

Natalie, Diana & Kobi:

Chiara Horlin:

The major aim of my research is looking at how boys and girls differ in their cognitive, intellectual and social abilities across their development. I am also interested in whether a child's prenatal testosterone levels, measured by the ratio between the 2nd and 4th fingers) affect these abilities.
