Course Information

The courses listed below offered by the Psychology Department at UWA have been approved by the Faculty of Science and Academic Council at UWA from 2000. If you wish to apply for one of the courses you should contact the Departmental Administrative Officer, Erica Hodgson erica@psy.uwa.edu.au, who will supply you with application forms. If you wish to find out even more about the courses then please contact  David Morrison  davidm@psy.uwa.edu.au .

Note in these pages are loose descriptions of the degrees.  For a more detailed view go to the MAsters MAnual for 2004 by clicking here.  Also note that we are in the process of changing our degrees in Industrial and Organisational Psychology.  The main change is that we are running the programs in collaboration with the School of Psychology at Curtin University.  There are a number of advantages to this, not least is a rationalisation of institutional offerings for a small town such as Perth, but also a widening of educational opportunity for students and an economic rationality for the Universities.

This degree has a research focus in that the entire second year is spent completing a substantial research thesis. In the first year a research preparation and methods unit must be completed. In addition 5 units of coursework must be completed.   The courses can be selected from any of the units offered as part of the MPsych program (including the Industrial and Organisational, Clinical,  Applied Developmental and Neuropsychology streams). If you are interested only in the Industrial and Organisational Psychology units go straight to the manual where you will find more details of available units. Note there are a variety of electives that we also allow.  To check these out go to my teaching resources page by clicking here. To check out the units available in the streams other than the Industrial and Organisational stream go to the appropriate home pages (click here).   Note some of the units are subject to quota and permission to take them should be sought from the appropriate course-coordinator. There is a limit of one practicum unit for this degree.

The MSc (Applied Psychology) degree will suit those students wishing to upgrade their skills, especially applied research skills, and those students who are thinking they might up-grade to a PhD in the area in which they have specialised for the MSc (Applied Psychology). The degree is not suitable for people wishing to gain a specialist title recognised by the Psychologist Registration Board of WA. Applicants need not necessarily possess undergraduate qualifications in psychology to do this degree but they should have a background in an allied discipline such as economics, commerce, education or public health.
